Game Description:
'Twilight Struggle' is a strategy board game which recreates the events and tension of the 'Cold War' between the USSR and the USA.
While the game has similarities with many card-driven war games, it has relatively simple rules and game mechanics which means that it also appeals to a wider audience.
The game begins in 1945 as the two superpowers, Russia and America, face up to each other over the wreckage left behind at the end of the Second World War. It then follows events right through up to 1989 and the collapse of the USSR and the Eastern Bloc.
Cards recreate the events of the Cold War, and each player must play one of these cards on each turn. Some of the events will be advantageous and some will hinder and disrupt even the best laid plans.
Each card contains an allowance of action points, but if it also contains one of your opponent's events, that event must also take place. This means that the game play is constant balancing act between using your action points to extend your influence around the world, while trying to restrict the damage caused by your opponent's events.
The game includes rules for military operations, the 'Space Race', coups, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Arab-Israeli War...and much, much more!
'Twilight Struggle' is already ackowledged as a 'modern classic' and is destined to be near the top of the strategy game rankings for many years to come.
This 'Deluxe' edition includes several improvements over the original edition - including a large mounted game board, extra (optional) event cards, rules for the 'Chinese Civil War, and larger counters.
